I have figured out that I am a carboholic! I have been eating WAY too many carbs! I lost 4.6 pounds in 4 days by changing a few things.. Let me tell ya more on how I did it. (I still cheated and had brownie bites too)
Okay, here I thought I was being so clever by eating a lean cuisines, healthy choice etc… until I actually looked at the package and it had 47g of carbs and only 9 grams of protein. Oh, but it only had 260 calories. YIKES!! What was I thinking?
So, this was typical for me. I love the white pastas, rice etc.. well, it is okay to eat carbs and it is healthy (let me make that very clear, I am not pushing a NO carb diet) BUT, what I needed was to balance it out and eat more protein and less carbs and to eat the right kind of carbs too. (complex carbs)
I work full time and don’t cook very often, so I try to find fast and easy solutions. If I cooked from scratch, I would have a lot more options. So, any suggestions would be great and I will try and cook more too.
Did you know that woman are supposed to eat 15-20 grams (minimum) for women 5 times a day and 25-30 grams (minimum) for men 5 times a day!! I didn’t know this. I was eating way too little protein and TOO many carbs!
So, I have done a few things differently but with same foods that I love: Remember, we recommend eating a protein, fruit or veggie and a complex carb each time you each. (Complex carbs are found in grains, fruits, legumes (peas and beans), and other vegetables. Hmmm, these are good protein sources too. go figure )
*First, I have been faithful in writing in my journal so I could see what I have been doing! This really does help.
1) I love a protein shake in the morning for breakfast. I looked at the one that I was drinking and it had 23 grams protein, this was good, BUT 28 grams of carbs. Ouch! Do you see where I am heading with this? My partner Rain Wallace told me about the new EAS protein shakes “advantedge” that are 17 grams of protein and 2 carbs.
a. Okay, so I switched my protein shakes. That was easy. (these are only 110 calories, easy to add to any meal for extra protein without the bulk)
2) I LOVE yogurt!! So, I found one from Dannon Light and Fit that only has 3 grams of carbs and 5 grams of protein. It was the lower carb version.
3) I LOVE cheese!! So, I found Kraft “live active” sticks that I will eat as a snack that have less than 1 gram of carbs and 8 grams of protein.
4) Almonds! Yummy, I eat these as snacks.
5) EGGS! Wow! When I have these for breakfast and throw some cheese in it and tons of Veggies!! Yummers! Veggies are great sources of good proteins and carbs! And, I find that I stay full a lot longer!
6) Brown Rice and Wheat pastas (restaurants have them, just ask) we even get wheat tortillas at our favorite Mexican restaurant café rio!
7) I will have for an easy snack “singles deli fresh” turkey and ham are my favorite. This is individually packaged and quick and easy food. Ad fruit or veggie.
8) I love Fruit and Veggies, that was always simple for me.
9) Wendy’s chili or any chili for that matter, it has Beans, hamburger, veggies! Yummers!
10) More Fish! I love Salmon, easy one for me.
11) More veggies that have fiber.
12) When I have a grilled chicken sandwich or hamburger, I will take half of the bun off and leave the mayo off for me! Yuck
13) I will add chicken or salmon to my salads
14) High fiber foods
15) Heres a good one, I eat 3-4 craves a day!!! I will eat ½ -1 package each time after I eat.
16) I drink a min of 90 ounces of water a day. More than I have to but I keep my body hydrated.
17) I use my cell phone as a timer and ALWAYS have 3-4 hours in between meals.
18) I eat 4 times a day. Some of those are just snacks and not meals.
So, I am still eating normal just less bad carbs and more protein. I am way more balanced now. But, I really try and get my 100 grams or more of protein in a day too. Adding an extra shake helps without all of the bulk. Eating the good carbs is good too.
I still have a sweet tooth, so I give myself my 15 minutes of fame and have a treat! BUT, I always eat it with my meal!
So, I am on the right track now and size 6 pants, here I come!!
